Oleg Snagovsky on Honda’s new arrivals for 2010

Sales and Marketing Manager at Honda Motor RUS LLC Oleg Snagovsky has told Motonews.ru all about the new arrivals offered by the Japanese brand Honda for bikers in 2010, the policy on grey dealers, and the profile of buyers of Honda motorcycles.

How many motorcycles are you selling in Russia?
It’s difficult to assess the market as a whole, but Honda holds the lead in motorcycle sales in Russia.

How does that compare to the previous years’ results?
The dynamics are all positive, with a steady upward trend.

How would you describe your average customer?
Honda is represented in all segments of the motorcycle market. The customer profile varies depending on each particular segment. Yet, they all have one thing in common – a passion for freedom – something which a motorcycle clearly caters to.

How many dealers does BMW have in Russia? And how many of them sell motorcycles?
We have 60 car dealerships, 80 dealers selling power equipment, and 9 motorcycle dealerships.

What new models can we look forward to seeing in the near future?
Oh, this year will be quite rich in new models at Honda. Three new models were presented just a short time ago: a new naked motorcycle CBF1000FA, a new VT1300CX chopper, and the long-awaited VFR1200F. Very soon (in the spring or summer), Honda will also present a new version of the VFR1200F with a new dual clutch transmission.

Do you follow any motorcycle sporting events? Which ones? Sure. SBK, WSS, MotoGP.

Are there any grey dealers? How do you fight them, if at all?
I guess there are plenty of grey dealers, since Honda is very popular on the Russian market. The main tools we use to fight them are obvious, though. When you come to an exclusive Honda showroom, we try and offer an entire range of services on the spot: a high quality product at a reasonable price, high quality professional after-sales service, and genuine spare parts and accessories.

What’s the brand’s pricing policy for Russia?
Honda motorcycles aren’t cheap. Still, on the pricing side, we always seek to ensure the best possible price for our clients. With excellent performance, high quality assembly and unique technologies, our clients can be 100-percent sure that they haven’t paid a single ruble extra.

What do you do to attract customers? Do you run any special promo offers?
We stimulate demand with new outstanding models, high quality service and attractive prices.

Do you personally ride a motorcycle? Do you have the Category A license? =)
I have the Category A license, and I enjoy riding my bike. I prefer sports touring motorcycles.

What do you think a motorcycle will be like in 10 years?
Safe.

Just as a brief reminder, Honda was founded on September 24, 1948 by Soitiro Honda. With its headquarters based in Tokyo, the company produces cars, trucks, planes, motorcycles, scooters, power generators, robots, marine engines, lawnmowers, mobility assistance devices for people with disabilities and other medical equipment. The company plans to produce biofuel (ethanol) and photoelectric elements. Up until the 1960s, Honda did not manufacture cars and specialized in motorcycles alone. When it resolved to enter the automotive market, the decision caused great concern in the Japanese government, since it believed that by competing with Toyota, Datsun (Nissan) and Mitsubishi on the global market, Honda would eventually damage the nation’s interests. Yet, the company’s management shrugged the pressure off.
