Mr. Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya new FIM Vice-President

Mr. Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya has been elected the new FIM Vice-President in the 125th FIM Congress. The congress, which started last Monday 18th October and will last until this coming Saturday, is taking place in the Venetian Macao Resort-Hotel in Macau, China, with a historical number of 98 Federations out of 101, a record in the history of the FIM.

The President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation and General Manager of Losail International Circuit, Mr. Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya, will be the new FIM Vice-President for the next 4 years.

Mr. Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya won the election with a total of 70 votes out of 94 different counties. The 2nd and 3rd positions in the Vice-Presidency will be taken by Mr. Jorge Viegas, from Portugal and Mr. David White, from Australia.

Regarding the FIM President, Mr. Vito Ippolito, who was elected with 55 votes versus 41 votes cast for his opponent, Mr Jean-Pierre Mougin will continue the Presidency for the next 4 years.

The FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) founded in 1904, is the governing body for motorcycle sport and the global advocate for motorcycling. It is recognized as the sole competent authority in motorcycle sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Among its 49 FIM World Championships the main events are MotoGP, Superbike, Endurance, Motocross, Supercross, Trial, Enduro, Cross-Country Rallies and Speedway.

Mr. Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya will be the first ever instance of an GCC official elected to the post of vice president at FIM and this will be very important for Qatar and for all the region as well to enhance the existing motor sport culture in Asia and the Middle East.
