Traffic police officer sentenced for scooter driver’s death

The Tyumen interregional investigation department has brought Anatoly Yegorov, traffic police force inspector, to justice for inflicting death on one person and causing serious trauma to another in a traffic accident.

According to various information agencies, Yegorov has been charged under Article 264 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (involuntary violation of driving regulations by a person driving a vehicle, which resulted in serious harm to the health of a person and death of a person).

Meanwhile, the press office of the Investigations Department of the Russian Investigations Committee in the Tyumen region announced that 27-year-old Yegorov, who had already been charged with administrative crimes for road safety regulations several times before, including in situations involving minor harm to a person’s health, for some reason drove in his personal vehicle (VAZ-217030) into a traffic lane with cars traveling in the opposite direction and crashed with a scooter on May 23, 2010.

The accident took place on the Tyumen – Krivodanovo village road. A Lada Priora collided with a Patron Shark 50 scooter.

As a result of the collision, the 27-year-old driver of the scooter died at the site of the accident and his 22-year-old passenger suffered numerous bone fractures and injuries to her internal organs, the announcement reads.

The maximum sentence for such a crime is five years behind bars and deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for three years.
