WSBK may come to Russia

The World Superbike (WSBK) racing championship is becoming more Europe-oriented.
The WSBK 2011 calendar still has two rounds to go, and both of them will be held far from Europe and require long trips – one to Australia’s Phillip Island and the other to the U.S. track at Miller Motorsports Park.

Rumor has it that the championship’s management is actively looking for new tracks, and one of the requirements is that the trip to them would not call for long-hour flights.

According to unofficial data, Russia is being considered as a possible location for one of the championship’s rounds.

Admittedly, however, there is not a single track in Russia at the moment that could be used for such events. But there is one that is just about ready.

A new track in Sochi is expected to be completed by 2014, and the world’s most prestigious car racing competition – Formula 1 – is set to take place there that same year. As luck would have it, that track may be just the right place to hold the WSBK championship in Russia.

There have been no official reports on any talks on the matter, however.
