Maxim Averkin wins Misano race

In order to get in shape to ride in the Italian Superbike Championship, Maxim Averkin took part in Italy’s Open1000 in the STK category held in Misano on March 27.

Thanks to his persistence and commitment to victory, the current Russian circuit racing champion in the 1000 cubic centimeters category came in first place.

“I came in fourth in qualification races; that was the first time I saw the racetrack. I was the fifth to go out of 42 pilots during the actual race, and I tried over and over again to take the lead. I was in a close fight with the runner-up for the last two laps and it was really a close win, just 200 meters ahead of the third racer.”

“I was riding my stock practice bike, a BMW S1000RR, since my racing Superbike was not ready for the Italian championship,” Maxim Averkin told a Motonews.ru correspondent while commenting on his victory.

He also praised the “superb organization of the racing weekend,” as well as the “excellent form of rival teams.” And as for his partners, he had nothing but gratitude: “Special thanks to Mr. Moto and BMW Mottorrad Russia!”

As we mentioned earlier, Maxim Averkin is the current champion of Russia in circuit races in the 1,000 cubic centimeters, and also the winner of Supermoto cups. He was born in Moscow on September 29, 1979. He fell in love with motocross when he was just 15, and in 2003, his hobby evolved into a sport.

The Misano racetrack was built back in 1969 and then upgraded in 2007. With a track measuring 4,180 meters long and 12 meters wide, Misano is a traditional venue of the San Marino Grand Prix. The track has a total of 16 turns – 10 right and 6 left ones, with its longest straight spanning 565 meters.
