YMS Promotion, Moscow Raceway secure contract for WSBK 2012 Russian round

YMS Promotion Ltd, the official organizer of the Russian round of the World Superbike Championship in 2012-2021, signed a contract with Moscow Raceway, Russia's first racetrack designed to host any car and motorcycle events, including Formula 1 and the World Superbike Grand Prix.

The Moscow Raceway circuit in the Moscow region is set to host the first-ever Russian round in the 25-year history of World Superbikes on August 26, 2012.

“Our circuit is ideal for holding races like the World Superbike. Moscow Raceway boasts a comprehensive infrastructure for events of any level, what with its 30,000 seats in the stands, VIP lounges and conference rooms, not to mention the cutting-edge special electronic equipment for holding the races. Apart from all that, the track itself has 17 configurations, making it exceptionally interesting for auto and motorsports,” Moscow Raceway’s head Ekaterina Beltsevich said. “We are ready to host the World Superbike round in 2012; the track is already nearing completion,” she added.

General Director of YMS Promotion Ltd Alexander Yakhnich added: “We are very pleased that the first-ever Russian round of the World Superbike will be held on the Moscow Raceway circuit, which is very close to Moscow. In the next six months, we will have to complete a great deal of preparations for the round, scheduled for August 26, 2012. Together with Moscow Raceway, we will use our best efforts to make this debut round an unforgettable experience not only for viewers and fans, but also for foreign guests and participants.”

The contract designating YMS Promotion Ltd the organizer of the World Superbike’s Russian round for the next decade was signed in Rome on September 22, 2011, in conjunction with Infront Motorsports, the official promoter of the World Superbike Championship.

Moscow Raceway, a racetrack designed by Tilke Engineers and Architects GmbH, will go down in history as Russia's first track capable of holding rounds of all top global races, including Formula 1 and MotoGP. The circuit is located 80 kilometers west of Moscow, in the Fedyukovo village on the Novorizhskoye highway. It covers a total area of 263 hectares. The track has 15 turns, including 9 left turns and 6 right turns. It measures 4,070 meters in length, and from 12 to 21 meters in width, with a total vertical drop of 22 meters. Its longest straight is 873 meters.
