Three days of official MotoGP tests came to close at the Sepang International Circuit today, as the CWM LCR Honda Team completed their penultimate pre-season session before the 18-round world championship begins in late March.
The day began in typical fashion at the scorching 3.444 mile circuit, with all riders heading quickly out onto the track at 10am to take advantage of the coolest part of the day. Cal Crutchlow was one of those firing in fast lap times from the off, topping the timesheets early on, and eventually setting a stunning personal best of 1’59.658, making him the third fastest rider of this week’s test.

The second official test in Malaysia has concluded with World Champion Marc Marquez fastest after three days, and teammate Dani Pedrosa in 7th.
The riders wasted no time in taking to the Sepang track this morning at 10am and the customary time attack ensued whilst track conditions and ambient temperatures are more bearable. With several riders posting times under 2’00, Marc laid down the fastest lap with his time of 1’59.115 on lap 13 of 73 (the most laps by any rider today) and this time remained unbeaten for the remainder of this final day. He evaluated two chassis options and worked on engine mapping before completing a very positive race simulation this afternoon with only three laps above 2’00.

The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team has wrapped up the second official test of the 2015 season today at the Sepang International circuit in Malaysia. Riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi have spent the three days of riding working through a number of testing elements, an update to the gearbox and some intensive work on their YZR-M1 set ups.
Today’s last day of testing was the toughest for the riders as they focused on a time attack in the morning before starting a full race distance simulation in the afternoon in the hotter temperatures.

After two weeks of analyzing data, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have returned to the Sepang International Circuit for the start of the second official three-day pre-season test. Despite the difficult track and weather conditions the teammates were able to finish today’s session in first and fifth respectively.

Dani Pedrosa: “We are very satisfiedâ€
After the first test in Malaysia, the Repsol Honda Team rider makes a very positive analysis of the three working days that marked the return from the winter break. Second by only one tenth of a second to his teammate at the test, Dani Pedrosa returned to action in top form. His lap times confirmed the good feeling he has about the work done by Honda and the changes to his crew.
How do you rate the first test in Sepang?
“It went very well. The last day we made complete race simulation, despite the heat there. Overall we were lucky, because the sky was a little more cloudy than usual and that meant the track was in good condition to ride. We must also say that on Friday morning the track was very good and the lap times came down by a lot. I made a small mistake on my best lap. Still, we are very pleased with how the first test of the year went.â€

Marc Marquez: “Riding in the 1’58s at Sepang was a special momentâ€

Marc Marquez has begun the 2015 preseason in excellent form, preparing to defend his MotoGP title for the second consecutive year. After three days of intense work, the Repsol Honda rider concluded the final day with the fastest lap ever set at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. The Spaniard once again demonstrated that he and the Honda RC213V will be hard to beat this season.
How was the first race simulation of the year?
“The truth is that it went very well. I chose to go out when the temperatures were higher, at 2:30pm, because that’s when the conditions are most similar to a Grand Prix. It is difficult to compare with other riders, because everyone chooses a different time to go out, but it went very well. We were able to collect a lot of data for the engineers from Honda and tried different engine mapping that helped me to understand many things. Doing a race simulation by yourself is a little more boring than a race; it’s tough, but you are still not riding at the limit. We will try to further improve the new bike, because we believe that there is still room for improvement, but we are very happy with the base that we have and I think that there is the potential to have another good year.â€

Marc and Dani both spent the day working on geometry, suspension settings and some electronics.
Lorenzo Tops Standings after Second Day of Pre-Season Testing
Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo is leading the standings after the second day of pre-season testing at Sepang, with teammate Valentino Rossi finishing less than 0,8s behind him in sixth place.
Jorge Lorenzo made the most of the gained data from yesterday’s eight-hour testing session and was quick to position himself among the protagonists on the leader board. After getting a feel for today’s more slippery and bumpy track, he grew in confidence and picked up the pace to become the first rider to break the two-minute barrier with a 1’59.963s lap. His lap stayed unbeaten for the rest of the session.
Strong Start for Yamaha at First Day of Pre-Season Testing
After more than two months of waiting, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo make a strong start at the first of a three-day pre-season Official IRTA test at Sepang, finishing second and third in today’s session times.
What started as a slightly cool morning for Malaysian standards turned into a scorching hot and sunny afternoon with plenty of action. Clearly eager to get going back aboard his YZR-M1, Rossi came prepared with a special Sepang Test helmet and showed that this year he’ll once again be one of the top protagonists. As the pace of the field started to pick up, he battled teammate Jorge Lorenzo, and rivals Andrea Dovizioso, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa for the top billing until, with almost three hours into the session, he cruised to the top the leader board. Clocking an impressive 2’00.380s lap, he is already less than 0.9 of second off last year’s fastest pre-season test time of 1’59.533s.
