Vladimir Leonov makes top 10 riders at World Supersport

As we already reported on Motonews.ru, the 13th – and this year’s last – round of the World Superbike 2011 motorcycle racing championship was held on October 15-16 on the Portimao racetrack in Portugal.

Russia's Vladimir Leonov, number 65 on the Yakhnich Motorsport team, took part in the races in the World Supersport class after being nominated as a wildcard entry.

Pedrosa takes the victory at Motegi

Dani Pedrosa took his third victory of the season in a dramatic Grand Prix of Japan with Casey Stoner alongside him on the podium in third position and with Andrea Dovizioso finishing fifth.

Today, Dani celebrates the 400th win for a Spaniard in Grand Prix racing and has given the Repsol Honda Team its first ever victory at the Motegi circuit. It's also the first win for Honda at this track since Makoto Tamada was victorious aboard his Camel Honda in 2004. Joining Dani on the podium, accepting the constructors trophy was Mr. Takanobu Ito - President, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director of Honda.

Leonov wins 1st Cup of Two States round | 1 comment(s)

Yakhnich Motorsport rider Vladimir Leonov, #65, won the first round of the Cup of Two States ("Coppa Dei Due Paesi") in San Marino.

Riding his Yamaha YZF R6 motorbike, Leonov completed the 11 laps of the race at 19'13. Andrea Agnelli, #66, from Clinical della Moto, who was incidentally riding an R6 as well, finished second, followed by yet another Italian on a Yamaha R6, Stefano Togni, #5. Sunday's three winners turned out to be almost the same as the leaders in Saturday's qualifying race.

Stoner and Dovizioso complete fantastic Repsol Honda 1-2, Rossi - 3rd!

The Repsol Honda team has experienced the best and worst sides of racing in the Grand Prix of France. Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso reached the first and second steps of the podium, but at the same time in the circuit medical centre, team mate Dani Pedrosa discovered his right collarbone was broken.

It was the second victory of the season for Casey Stoner who was untouchable throughout the whole weekend at Le Mans, and the first podium of the season for Andrea Dovizioso. Dani Pedrosa, who set the new circuit record with a time of 1’33.617 on his 9th lap, was also fighting for a podium finish when on lap 18, a risky manoeuvre from Marco Simoncelli sent him into the gravel. Casey increased the gap at the front and Andrea showed his best performance to fight for second position with Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.

Cup of Two States – Coppa die due Paesi

LLC “Yakhnich Motorsport” presents a unique Russian-Italian motoproject “Cup of Two States – Coppa die due Paesi”.

Two road races for “Cup of Two States” will take place in Russia and Italy in summer 2011 on unique terms. The total amount of prizes is 35000 euro.

Maxim Averkin wins Misano race

In order to get in shape to ride in the Italian Superbike Championship, Maxim Averkin took part in Italy’s Open1000 in the STK category held in Misano on March 27.

Thanks to his persistence and commitment to victory, the current Russian circuit racing champion in the 1000 cubic centimeters category came in first place.

WSBK may come to Russia

The World Superbike (WSBK) racing championship is becoming more Europe-oriented.
The WSBK 2011 calendar still has two rounds to go, and both of them will be held far from Europe and require long trips – one to Australia’s Phillip Island and the other to the U.S. track at Miller Motorsports Park.

Rumor has it that the championship’s management is actively looking for new tracks, and one of the requirements is that the trip to them would not call for long-hour flights.

Dorna, FIM representatives headed for Crimea

Official representatives of Dorna Sports (the holder of commercial rights to the MotoGP series) and FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) plan to venture to the Crimea to assess Ukraine’s potential to host the World Championship. As reported earlier, a new racetrack, the Crimea Grand Prix Circuit, is currently being built in Ukraine’s Crimea, just 6 kilometers from the resort city of Yevpatoria. The track has been developed by the renowned designer of such auto and motor cycling facilities, German architect Hermann Tilke.

The construction is being done by Stepracing Team Ltd. According to Anatoly Kuchmin, the construction company’s co-owner, both Dorna and FIM would like to see Ukraine host a MotoGP round, and are planning to visit the track this spring when the circuit, worth EUR 260m, is due for completion.

Russia's Sochi to host Formula 1 races

The document to this effect was signed by Mikhail Kapirulin, general director of the Omega center for the transfer of technology of the construction sector of the Krasnodar region, and Bernie Ecclestone, the owner of commercial rights to the Formula 1 series.

Presumably, the world’s most admired car races will be held in the southern Russian city starting in 2014. The agreement spans 7 years, but can also be extended for another 5 years.

Lorenzo blows away rivals with clinical Brno win; Rossi struggles to fifth

Jorge Lorenzo took an impressive seventh win of the season in Brno this afternoon with a clinical performance that saw him lead from the first lap to the chequered flag. In doing so he becomes only the third premier-class rider in history to finish in the top two at the opening ten races of the season. In stark contrast to his Fiat Yamaha team-mate's good fortunes, Valentino Rossi ran into problems from the start and could only finish fifth.

Despite surrendering pole position for the first time in six races, some bold moves from the Spaniard around the first two turns saw him take the lead before the first split and he looked in imperious form on his Yamaha M1, with yesterday's front-end troubles clearly a thing of the past. Dani Pedrosa kept close on his heels for the first few laps but every time his fellow countryman closed the gap a few tenths Lorenzo responded with renewed vigour and by the tenth lap he was a second clear. From then on he was unchallenged and he crossed the line 5.494 seconds clear of Pedrosa to take the 33rd win of his career and his 12th in MotoGP.

Day 15 Dakar 2010: Three-way line honors for KTM in penultimate Stage 13

Norwegian rider Pal Ullevalseter stole the glory on the penultimate stage of the 2010 Dakar on Friday ahead of overall leader Cyril Despres and his fellow KTM supported rider Marc Coma.

Ullevalseter’s line honors allowed him to edge forward ahead of Chilean Francesco Lopez in the overall standings. He is now second overall with a slim four minute advantage over the Chilean rider. While the battle for the minor places continues to intensify as the rally heads for the Argentinean capital on Saturday, the French-born Despres still has a handsome lead of one hour four minutes and 12 seconds, even if the silverware is not in his hands just yet.

Yamaha Sterilgarda World Superbike riders wrap a successful test in Valencia

The all British line up of Cal Crutchlow and James Toseland wrapped up a successful final day of testing in Valencia this afternoon. Both Crutchlow and Toseland had spent the two day test at the Ricardo Tormo circuit working through electronic and chassis settings on their R1 superbikes ahead of the 2010 season next year.

Day two saw big improvements from both riders as the times came down, covering some 60 laps each, despite neither of them getting the opportunity to take advantage of the faster tyres towards the end of the day. They will now head home for Christmas before joining up with their new team again in Portugal in January for the first test of 2010 at the Portimao circuit in the Algarve.

Debut MotoGP season is over for Vladimir Leonov, a Viessmann Kiefer Racing pilot and the only Russian in MotoGP 250cc.

As reported earlier on Motonews.ru, the MotoGP in Valencia (Spain) was not only the last tournament for the season, but also the last 250cc class race in history – a race that was held every single year for 60 years. From now on, however, the 250cc class will be replaced by the 600cc Moto2 class.

Russia in Moto2: Vector Racing Team and Kiefer Racing to further cooperate in 2010

Motonews.ru is pleased to announce that Russia will participate in MotoGP in 2010 namely in the Moto2 class!

Vladimir Trushchenkov, the owner of Russia’s Vector Racing Team, has signed a contract with Stefan Kiefer, the head of Germany’s Kiefer Racing team, to join efforts for the next MotoGP in 2010. With this in mind, the cooperation that began this year in the 250 cc class will continue.

MotoGP is coming to Russia

MotoGP’s possible and long-awaited arrival in Russia has become the talk of the town in the motorcycling world amid the global financial crisis.

Compared to other European countries and even the United States, Russia’s situation is rather favorable at the moment. Besides, the construction of several new circuits is continuing, and they will be ready to host a MotoGP race someday soon.

Yakhnich Motosport star finds new hobby in time off | 1 comment(s)

Nadya Yakhnich, a well-known member of Russia’s Yakhnich Motosport team, kindly agreed to expand on the team news and her accident in Brno (the Czech Republic) in an interview with Motonews.ru.

What do the doctors say? How long will you be stuck wearing a plaster cast?
“I thought it was just a crack and planned to go to the European Championship. I came to Moscow, they took an X-ray and told me: ‘Okay, good bye now!’ It turned out that my ankle was broken. So my only option was to wear a plaster cast for a month and a half. I couldn’t even walk. And afterwards, two weeks to work out and rehabilitate my leg. My collar-bone is broken too. It happened a year ago at exactly the same place in Brno. Doctors had a plate put into it. So when I fell over this time I broke it again. I had to have another surgery and another plate implanted. And it will take my arm two months to rehabilitate.”
