Leonov keeps his fingers crossed for Misano
One lap. No more than one lap on Saturday free practice in Donington Park, and the Vladimir Leonov fifth stage of WSS is finished. He entered the circuit with a good smile. First practice was good, and instead of the stone that broken the radiator and obliged him to stay in the box for more than 20 minutes, in only three fast laps he signed a promising 10th position. During the night mechanics prepared the bike to fits his request even better, and a significantly better performance was possible for Vladimir and Yakhnich Motorsport Yamaha R6.
But for some reasons destiny decided it wasn’t our weekend. Vladimir entered the circuit, made is flying lap, and just when he was starting the first full lap, at corner 3, suddenly he loose the rear tyre and a terrible high side was the end of his week-end.

On April 7-8, Vladimir Leonov brought victory to his team, Yakhnich Motorsport, in a race in wet conditions in Imola, Italy at the Italian Road Race Championship.
Throughout the race, Leonov’s pace was 3-4 seconds faster than that of other Supersport riders in the peloton. In the middle of the race, after Vladimir was told by the team’s racing coaches to slow down, Alex Gramini, who was going second, showed a good lap time of 2:16:158 — but it was still 0.5 seconds longer than Vladimir’s…

Moto2 test: onboard with Vladimir Leonov in Almeria
Motonews.ru is pleased to publish the video clips from the final test rides in Spain. Several teams got together in Spain on December 14-15, 2009. They are all set to compete in the newly introduced 600cc Moto2 class in 2010. They spent two days trying out various types of tyres and adjusting their prototypes.
Vladimir Leonov was seen on the track several times with his team mate Stefan Bradl. Overall, both pilots looked very happy with the new chassis developed by Swiss-based Suter Racing, regardless of the consistent trouble with so-called chattering, or severe vibrations, which could cause a tumble.

Debut MotoGP season is over for Vladimir Leonov, a Viessmann Kiefer Racing pilot and the only Russian in MotoGP 250cc.
As reported earlier on Motonews.ru, the MotoGP in Valencia (Spain) was not only the last tournament for the season, but also the last 250cc class race in history – a race that was held every single year for 60 years. From now on, however, the 250cc class will be replaced by the 600cc Moto2 class.

On October 16-18, 2009,Vladimir Leonov, a Viessmann Kiefer Racing pilot and the only Russian in MotoGP (250cc class) supported by Vector Racing Team, took part in the Australian MotoGP, the 14th round of the world motorcycle grand prix.
Unfortunately, Vladimir Leonov failed to make it to the finals. It was his first visit to Phillip Island, one of MotoGP’s most complicated circuits, and Vladimir managed to get along with it very well. He scored 20th in qualification, leaving behind quite a few rivals who had even more powerful bikes.

The MotoGP-2009 motorcycling race in Indianapolis (USA) was won by Marco Simoncelli from Italy, #58, Metis Gilera team, in the 250cc class. Simoncelli made 26 laps (109.616rm) with a time of 45:43.599.
Vladimir Leonov from Russia, representing Viessmann Kiefer Racing, also showed quite an impressive result – coming in No. 15, for which he managed to get another point, bringing his current total up to eight. Leonov came in 1 minute and 46.821 seconds behind the leader. While racing, Leonov clearly demonstrated that he is in great shape, making one pass after another. Just a reminder: only 19 out of 24 pilots actually made it to the finish.

Russia in MotoGP: Vladimir Leonov completes his mission in Brno
|

Though the race was won by Marco Simoncelli from Italy, Russia’s Vladimir Leonov fulfilled his task and, despite the searing pain in his hand from an injury suffered two races earlier, made it to the finish with a score of No. 19 and just 1:59.794 behind the leader in German’s Sachsenring.
Motonews.ru is happy to share exclusive photos from the event along with a short video from Brno (the Czech Republic), right where the Czech Gran Prix took place.

Positive drop out
Vector Racing Team pilot and the only Russian in MotoGP Vladimir Leonov competed in Italian Gran Prix, i.e. the fifth round of the world motor racing championship, in the 250cc class. Unfortunately, technical problems kept the 22-year old pilot from finishing in his debut MotoGP season.
During a two-day practice run, Vladimir Leonov, representing Viessmann Kiefer Racing, got used to the circuit very quickly, and he passed the qualification with no problem - ending up 21st out of 24 drivers. It started raining right before the race, however, forcing mechanics to switch from slick to rain tyres. This should have actually played right into the hands of our driver, who has proven himself a master of the wet track many times. In addition, it is a well-known fact that rain minimizes the engine power of bikes of factory and private moto teams.
