The recent Russian round of the World Superbike Championship was not merely a superb show.
In one way or another, any global racing event brings the motorcycle sport into the spotlight and captures the attention of even those who never before pictured themselves riding a motorcycle. With that in mind, expansion-focused companies typically seek to make a statement during major shows, exhibitions and contests.
Sumeko, an official distributor of several premium-segment European brands, such as Aprilia, Vespa, Piaggio, Gilera, Moto Guzzi, Scarabeo, and Derbi, presented its products during the World Superbike Championship in the SBK Village at the Moscow Raceway track. Quite unexpectedly, even one of the Aprilia Racing riders, Eugene Laverty, turned up smiling at the Sumeko stand before the race for an autograph and a photo session with his fans.

WSBK may come to Russia

The World Superbike (WSBK) racing championship is becoming more Europe-oriented.
The WSBK 2011 calendar still has two rounds to go, and both of them will be held far from Europe and require long trips – one to Australia’s Phillip Island and the other to the U.S. track at Miller Motorsports Park.
Rumor has it that the championship’s management is actively looking for new tracks, and one of the requirements is that the trip to them would not call for long-hour flights.

Misano Circuit: Seventy-three days after an operation to his right shoulder, Valentino Rossi returned to the track at Misano Adriatico aboard a Ducati 1198 Superbike. On November 14 at Cattolica’s Cervesi hospital, the Italian had undergone surgery on the supraspinatus tendon and the long head of biceps tendon, as well as cartilage in the Glenoid Labrum.
The day was sunny but chilly, with a maximum air temperature of 10º Centigrade (50º Fahrenheit) and a maximum track temperature of 15º C (59º F). Valentino arrived at the circuit at around 1:20 and met a team of Ducati technicians that included his own crew’s two engineers, Matteo Flamigni and Gabriele Conti, as well as Ducati Marlboro Team Manager Vittoriano Guareschi. A half-hour later, he turned the first laps aboard the 1198 to test the status of his shoulder which, though recovering nicely, is still quite painful, just a few days ahead of the first test in Malaysia with the Desmosedici GP11.
