Sergei Bednaruk: Russia's WSBK debut successful
Sergei Bednaruk, commentator for Russia's first-ever World Superbike Championship (WSBK) event on the Moscow Raceway track, answers questions and shares his impressions of the racing weekend with Motonews.ru readers.
Sergei, the WSBK championship has finally come to Russia. What’s your take on the first-ever Russian WSBK round?
A WSBK round held in Russia is certainly a historical event and an important step to becoming part of international races. Six years ago, when I took my first steps as the World Superbike commentator on 7TV, a Russian round was hardly feasible. I can remember very well what WSBK’s chief promoter, Maurizio Flammini, said to me in Portimao four years ago: “We will hold a WSBK round in Russia as soon as it has a suitable track.” They kept that promise: just a month and a half after its official opening, Moscow Raceway – Russia's first track to meet global standards – hosted a WSBK round. We have to give credit to Yakhnich Motorsport for that, for this glorious event would never have become possible if not for them.

Revaz Magalashvili on Tissot's latest promo activity in Russia

Tissot’s brand manager, Revaz Magalashvili, shared his impressions from the Russian WSBK round and filled Motonews.ru in on the Swiss brand’s latest promotional activity in Russia.
“This past August was really one of the most important months in 2012 for the brand in terms of big event sponsorships. Throughout the year, we proactively advertised our cooperation with World Superbike, we organized our own motorcycling events and participated in events staged by our partners.
The campaign reached its peak on August 26, when an SBK round was held in Russia for the first time. Tissot sponsored a fan zone in the Superbike Village, featuring a watch exhibition open for all visitors throughout the SBK weekend, competitions, exciting shows, and a performance by the rock band Lyapis Trubetskoy.
It was especially rewarding since all fan zone guests showed interest in Tissot watches, and we are already seeing a rise in sales.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank, on behalf of our company, everyone involved in organizing the WSBK round. The event was really up to the best international standards! We were also very delighted to see our brand’s friend, Yakhnich Motorsport rider Vladimir Leonov, win third place. We sincerely congratulate Vladimir on his medal, and wish him more glorious victories in the future!
As soon as the Moscow Superbike round was over, our stand relocated to the Moscow International Automobile Salon. This year, we presented our exposition in partnership with Chrysler Group LLC (Fiat, Jeep, Chrysler brands). Our stand featured Tissot’s sports collections dedicated to car and motorcycle sports. Several times a day during the Salon week, Tissot presented a unique show bringing together the Tissot, Fiat, Jeep, and Chrysler brands, and showing how to really make the moment last… Vladimir Leonov even paid a visit to our stand as an honorary guest.”
Denis Alexandrov: Vespa scooters enjoy stable demand

The recent Russian round of the World Superbike Championship was not merely a superb show.
In one way or another, any global racing event brings the motorcycle sport into the spotlight and captures the attention of even those who never before pictured themselves riding a motorcycle. With that in mind, expansion-focused companies typically seek to make a statement during major shows, exhibitions and contests.
Sumeko, an official distributor of several premium-segment European brands, such as Aprilia, Vespa, Piaggio, Gilera, Moto Guzzi, Scarabeo, and Derbi, presented its products during the World Superbike Championship in the SBK Village at the Moscow Raceway track. Quite unexpectedly, even one of the Aprilia Racing riders, Eugene Laverty, turned up smiling at the Sumeko stand before the race for an autograph and a photo session with his fans.

A biker shot a bus driver of the emergency elevator service with a traumatic gun on October 6 after a traffic conflict. The driver was injured and taken to the hospital.
The incident took place on 1st Magistralnaya Street early in the morning on October 6, 2011. It all started when, amid habitually heavy morning road traffic, the biker tried to squeeze between the lanes. Annoyed at the bus driver’s reluctance to let him through, the biker crushed the left side-view mirror on the bus. In return, the driver got out of the bus and snatched the ignition key from the biker so that he could not leave. At this point, the biker fired his traumatic gun several times at the bus driver in retaliation. The driver was later rushed to the hospital.

Moscow hosts Moto Park 2011

The 8th international motorcycle trade show Moto Park 2011 was recently on display at the Crocus Expo exhibition center.
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to get to Moto Park 2011 safely by bike, so our advice is – don’t even think about it! We feel compelled to warn those audacious guys who rode to the Moto Park on sports bikes while there was still snow on the ground.

John Travolta visits Moscow

4 comment(s)
Famous Hollywood actor John Travolta arrived in Moscow for what was originally planned as a private visit. Travolta flew to the Russian capital in his private jet Boeing-707 for a couple of days. He was accompanied by his two older sisters and 10-year old daughter.
For most of the flight, the plane was piloted by Travolta himself, who happens to be a big fan of airplanes. He even landed the plane at the Vnukovo airport himself, despite the fact that weather conditions were complicated by rain. The actor has about 6,000 hours of flying time as a pilot under his belt.
