Vladimir Leonov: I can't wait to see new bike
|

Debut MotoGP season is over for Vladimir Leonov, a Viessmann Kiefer Racing pilot and the only Russian in MotoGP 250cc.
As reported earlier on Motonews.ru, the MotoGP in Valencia (Spain) was not only the last tournament for the season, but also the last 250cc class race in history – a race that was held every single year for 60 years. From now on, however, the 250cc class will be replaced by the 600cc Moto2 class.

Wrap-up of Vladimir Leonov's achievements in Australia and Malaysia

On October 16-18, 2009,Vladimir Leonov, a Viessmann Kiefer Racing pilot and the only Russian in MotoGP (250cc class) supported by Vector Racing Team, took part in the Australian MotoGP, the 14th round of the world motorcycle grand prix.
Unfortunately, Vladimir Leonov failed to make it to the finals. It was his first visit to Phillip Island, one of MotoGP’s most complicated circuits, and Vladimir managed to get along with it very well. He scored 20th in qualification, leaving behind quite a few rivals who had even more powerful bikes.

The MotoGP-2009 motorcycling race in Indianapolis (USA) was won by Marco Simoncelli from Italy, #58, Metis Gilera team, in the 250cc class. Simoncelli made 26 laps (109.616rm) with a time of 45:43.599.
Vladimir Leonov from Russia, representing Viessmann Kiefer Racing, also showed quite an impressive result – coming in No. 15, for which he managed to get another point, bringing his current total up to eight. Leonov came in 1 minute and 46.821 seconds behind the leader. While racing, Leonov clearly demonstrated that he is in great shape, making one pass after another. Just a reminder: only 19 out of 24 pilots actually made it to the finish.

Positive drop out
Vector Racing Team pilot and the only Russian in MotoGP Vladimir Leonov competed in Italian Gran Prix, i.e. the fifth round of the world motor racing championship, in the 250cc class. Unfortunately, technical problems kept the 22-year old pilot from finishing in his debut MotoGP season.
During a two-day practice run, Vladimir Leonov, representing Viessmann Kiefer Racing, got used to the circuit very quickly, and he passed the qualification with no problem - ending up 21st out of 24 drivers. It started raining right before the race, however, forcing mechanics to switch from slick to rain tyres. This should have actually played right into the hands of our driver, who has proven himself a master of the wet track many times. In addition, it is a well-known fact that rain minimizes the engine power of bikes of factory and private moto teams.

Vladimir shares his MotoGP impressions with journalists
Earlier this month Viessmann Kiefer Racing pilot Vladimir Leonov got together with friends, fans and journalists to answer their questions.
The event took place at the Drive House biker club. Vladimir expanded on his MotoGP debut and the first three races in Qatar, Japan and Spain. He also shared his impressions about the hardships he has suffered as a MotoGP pilot, i.e. the peculiarities of the circuit surface on sunny and rainy days, the difficulties of riding a bike, the bike’s own individual temper, the atmosphere at the circuit and the championships in general, as well as how amazing it is to be among motorbike stars, and of course, the pressure that results from all of these things.

Vladimir Leonov shows impressive results in Japan
Grand Prix of Japan ended with Alvaro Bautista (No. 19, Aprilia bike) from Mapfre Aspar Team 250cc winning in the 250cc class in Motegi last weekend.
Vladimir Leonov, the Russian pilot representing Viessmann Kiefer Racing, had a great surprise for not only all his fans, but also the team itself, which acts as his sponsor and supports him during his international MotoGP 2009 international tour. On his birthday, Vladimir came in 15th and earned his first well-deserved “1” point.

Vladimir Leonov completes first day of test rides in Spain
The Viessmann Kiefer Racing Team pilot and the first Russian to ever make it to MotoGP Vladimir Leonov was back on track yesterday for the last official pre-season MotoGP test rides in Jerez de la Frontera (Spain) today.
Yesterday was the first test ride day in the south of Spain. Vladimir showed pretty good results, ending in the 18th position. His best time was 1:47.563. He made 12 laps, the 5th of which was the most successful. Unfortunately, on the first turn of the 12th lap, Vladimir took a fall. His team then resolved to quit the test ride. It was a rather technical fall, with no injuries and no damage to the bike.

Russia in MotoGP: Vladimir Leonov shares his first impressions
On the first day of test rides Vladimir Leonov’s main aim was to break in the new engine. The team’s technical director and Leonov’s personal motorist prepared a break-in plan that was smoothly fulfilled.
The Aprilia RSW 250 weighs 60kg less than the Yamaha YZF R6 that Leonov has been riding for the past couple of years. This will require a highly specific way of making turns and more effective braking. The bike also boasts more impressive acceleration dynamics and allows the rider to maintain high speed at maximum lean angles. “It’s important to feel the bike, to trust it. It’s like when you switch from a tuned Vaz 21010 to McLaren. This bike has tremendous speed and mobility potential, and I’ve got to use that,” Viessmann Kiefer Racing pilot Vladimir Leonov said.

Russia in MotoGP: first test rides in Portugal
On March 15-17, Vector Racing Team pilot and the first Russian MotoGP pilot Vladimir Leonov will for the first time ever participate in private team rides with Aprilia RSW 250.
This year, the 21-year-old Russian will have a debut ride in the 250cc class and be part of Germany’s Viesmann Kiefer Racing team for the entire year. But we should explain a bit here. Even though all official protocols will have the German team name in front of Leonov, in fact he will actually continue fighting for Russia’s Vector Racing Team, which he has been part of for the past two seasons in the Superstock (world tournament) and Supersport (German championship) classes. A special agreement giving the green light to such a deal was signed between the two motorbike teams in mid-February.

Russian pilot in MotoGP 2009
For the first time in the history of MotoGP there will be a Russian among the pilots. We are not talking about the ‘royal’ class yet, of course. Just the 250cc one.
The Viessmann Kiefer Racing team is at the final stage of talks with the Vector team and Vladimir Leonov at the moment. The former’s owner, Stefan Kifer, and Vector Racing (including Vladimir Leonov as part of it) have gone through very tough negotiations on the further methods of cooperation between the German team and the young Russian pilot.
